Bishop Floyd M. Schoenhals was elected to a six-year term as Bishop in 1994, re-elected to a second term in 2000, and re-elected to a third term in 2006. Prior to his election as Bishop in 1994 he served as a pastor of congregations in Tulsa, OK, Shawnee, OK, and Marrero, LA. Bishop Schoenhals is married to Betty, a retired Kindergarten teacher. They have three adult children, Mark David, who is married to Cynthea Liu, Joel Timothy, and Amy Ruth. They have one granddaughter, Clara Helen, daughter of Mark and Cynthea.
Bishop Schoenhals is currently serving the Board of Directors of Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, Lutheran Planned Giving Partnership - Arkansas-Oklahoma and Central States Synod, Oaks Indian Mission, Wheat Ridge Ministries, Oklahoma Conference of Churches, Arkansas Interfaith Conference. He also serves as a member of the Theological & Ethical Concerns Committee, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Conference of Bishops and on the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Theological Discussion Panel.
Bishop Schoenhals earned his BA degree from Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1962, and his M.Div. degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1966. He was ordained in 1966. Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, awarded him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 1997.
