Youth in Mission announces conference “Pastoral Care for Youth”- April 20-22, 2009

Chicago, Ill. – Youth in Mission ministry at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, invites both youth ministry workers and clergy to its first annual YIM Conference for Youth Ministry Workers April 20-22, 2009. The topic, “Pastoral Care for Youth,” was identified by a survey of youth ministry workers as a topic which they thought needed more coverage in the youth ministry field.

The Keynote Speaker/Preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Robert Dykstra, professor of pastoral care at Princeton Theological Seminary and author of several books including Counseling Troubled Youth and co-author of Losers, Loners, and Rebels: The Spiritual Struggles of Boys. Prof. Dykstra’s colleague Kenda Creasy Dean said, “In addition to being one of the most popular and provocative teachers on campus (Prof. Dykstra’s “Pastoral Care for Adolescents” course at the Princeton Seminary is legendary – and packed…every time he teaches it) Bob is a prophetic voice on behalf of students and young people in general…His own ministry has walked many, many young people into faith in Jesus Christ.”

Youth in Mission was originally funded by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., for the purpose of encouraging young people to explore their gifts for ministry and to consider a profession of serving others through the church. Lilly continues to fund the YIM programs through a matching grant.
