Today's Reflection: Re-creation

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. –Psalm 51:10

We don’t always get it right. We make mistakes. We are imperfect beings. We know that, even if sometimes we aren’t willing to admit it.Psalm 51 has for millennia given God’s people the words to acknowledge our shortcomings, but even more to acknowledge that we cannot overcome our shortcomings by ourselves. It is a plea to our Creator to recreate us.To heal us.To give us another chance. And God does.We see this life-giving power in Jesus’ life and ministry as he extends healing and wholeness to people who are suffering under the weight of their own brokenness. We see it in his restoration of Peter and the other disciples who fled the cross in fear and then, after the resurrection, were sent out to share the Good News of God’s healing for the whole world.I, for one, am grateful for the mercy of God which restores me again and again.
